MHF4U tutoring — Grade 12 Advanced Functions
MHF4U Advanced Functions tutoring in Oakville. The course that breaks more strong Grade 12 students than any other — we teach polynomial, rational, logarithmic and trigonometric functions as one connected system.

What the course covers
MHF4U unit by unit.
Straight from the Ontario course outline — the units your child will be assessed on.
Polynomial functions: end behaviour, factor theorem, inequalities
Rational functions, asymptotes and discontinuities
Exponential and logarithmic functions and laws
Trigonometric functions, radian measure and identities
Rates of change: average and instantaneous
Combining and composing functions
Where marks are lost
Why students struggle in MHF4U.
- Polynomial and rational inequalities require sign analysis most students were never explicitly taught
- Logarithm laws are applied mechanically and break on multi-step equations
- Radian measure is treated as a unit conversion instead of a new way of reading the circle
- Rates of change arrives late in the semester, under exam pressure, and is the direct bridge into MCV4U
How we teach it
Our approach.
- Establish sign analysis and interval notation properly in the first two sessions
- Connect every function family back to transformations learned in MCR3U
- Teach rates of change as the conceptual start of calculus, not a final-unit afterthought
- Weekly cumulative retrieval so the January exam is revision, not relearning
Why it matters
What this course decides.
MHF4U appears in the admission average for almost every university science, engineering, mathematics and commerce programme in Ontario.
Built in, not sold separately
Study skills every session.
Every MHF4U session uses retrieval practice on earlier units, spaced review, interleaved problem sets and timed exam simulation before assessments. Study skills are part of the programme, never a separate add-on.
