MCV4U tutoring — Grade 12 Calculus & Vectors
MCV4U Calculus & Vectors tutoring in Oakville for Grade 12 students heading into engineering, physics, mathematics and computer science.

What the course covers
MCV4U unit by unit.
Straight from the Ontario course outline — the units your child will be assessed on.
Rates of change and the limit definition of the derivative
Derivatives of polynomial, rational and radical functions
Product, quotient and chain rules
Curve sketching and optimisation problems
Derivatives of exponential and trigonometric functions
Geometric and Cartesian vectors
Lines and planes in three-space and their intersections
Where marks are lost
Why students struggle in MCV4U.
- The chain rule is applied without recognising the composition, so multi-layer questions fail
- Optimisation questions are lost at the modelling step, before any calculus is used
- Curve sketching requires the sign analysis skills carried over from MHF4U
- Vectors is a separate discipline taught at the end of the semester with the least remaining time
How we teach it
Our approach.
- Build differentiation fluency through spaced drill before tackling applications
- Teach optimisation as a translation skill: words to diagram to equation to derivative
- Start vectors early alongside calculus rather than leaving it to the final weeks
- Full timed exam simulation covering both halves of the course
Why it matters
What this course decides.
MCV4U is a hard prerequisite for engineering, physics, mathematics and most computer science programmes. Without it, those applications are not possible.
Built in, not sold separately
Study skills every session.
Every MCV4U session uses retrieval practice on earlier units, spaced review, interleaved problem sets and timed exam simulation before assessments. Study skills are part of the programme, never a separate add-on.
